About The Position

The Medical Assistant will be an advocate for the patient’s needs by collaborating with both the patient and their care team to ensure that the patient receives the high level of care. Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public.
  • Must be able to relay information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, family members, visitors or personnel.
  • Must possess leadership, supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to navigate electronic medical record systems.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program and have obtained the Medication Assistant Certification.
  • Certified or registered as a Medical Assistant (MA). Certification (CMA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant III in good standing with the state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in clinic setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates data to healthcare provider
  • Follows through on the patient’s plan of care under the direction of the provider
  • Communicates the provider’s written instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver
  • Participates in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings
  • Obtains vital signs, prepares patients for examinations, observes and reports patient’s signs or symptoms, and performs point of care testing
  • Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, goals, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and protocols.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families per office/clinic standards.
  • Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice.
  • Meets communication needs of patients.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Finds and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing assistant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice.
  • Helps in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Notifies proper licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN or LPN any observed changes in patient status and responses.
  • Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric, and general patient population.
  • Response is proper to the patient in emergencies or physically distressful situations.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all equipment used in treatment of patients.
  • Maintains and replaces supplies on unit assigned.
  • As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the CMA III scope of practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.
