About The Position

The Medical Assistant is responsible for working within a float pool at the various Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group Clinics to assist with supplemental staffing. The expert level Medical Assistant demonstrates a mastery level of proficiency in delivering patient care in the ambulatory care setting. Performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical and administrative support in a clinical setting Serves as a float pool resource to various clinics within designated, local region. Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and POCTs. Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record. Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit. Sets up instruments and equipment for medical provider (MD, DO, PA NP). Assist with procedures as needed. Administer medication under direction / order of a supervising medical provider (MD, DO, PA NP). Instructs patients on general care and medical procedures as appropriate to scope of practice for an MA. Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition. Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments. Conduct patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups. Responds to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages and route to RN, ACP or Physician as needed. Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. Take inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed. Supports the clinic / departments compliance with regulatory requirements. Performs functions of the Office Associate/ Patient Access Representative and is cross-trained to fill in this role as needed Conduct Performance Improvement activities that support the clinic / departments goals for quality, patient experience, patient safety and/or efficiency. Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel. Flexible, dependable, hardworking, willing to work in a float pool position and be adaptable. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required if applicable.
  • Successfully completed Medication Aide 40-hour course or current/valid Medication Aide certification by state agency required if applicable.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required. From American Heart Association
  • Ability to perform EKGs, draw blood and administer injections.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Through knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
  • Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
  • Good computer skills using a medical management application.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
