About The Position

This position is responsible to provide preventive life guarding and aquatic safety measures at the Woodstock Water Works Aquatic Center by monitoring the activities of pool patrons and enforcing rules and regulations. Oversees the activities of swimmers to ensure their personal safety and the safety of others. Enforces the rules and regulations of the pool and protects against misuse. Maintains discipline to ensure pleasure and safety of all swimmers. Disciplines in a fair and consistent manner. Remains calm in all situations. Reports any unusual or notable incidents to the Supervisor in charge. Cautions and educates swimmers about dangerous situations. Provides patron rescue and administers first aid or life saving techniques as necessary. Conducts classes in various levels of swimming ability and water safety. Prepares the pool for upcoming activities. Keeps deck area neat. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of the pool, equipment and surrounding area. Maintains records and reports of pool activities. Responds to questions and complaints from patrons. Encourages and provides excellent customer service. Promotes professional and courteous behavior with a creative approach to problem resolution to creates a positive experience for the customer. Assists other Recreation staff as needed. Leads special and aquatic events and programs as needed.

Requirements

  • 15 years of age and older
  • SPECIAL NOTE FOR 15 YEAR OLDS: Must have a work permit AND be certified as a Lifeguard BEFORE hire date. Work permits may be obtained at your school/district office.
  • Must have American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED and Lifeguard Certifications at time of hire.
  • Must obtain DCFS Mandated Reporter certification upon hire.
