Job Overview: The Certified Hyperbaric Technician will work closely with clinic management in the coordination of patient care, including making recommendations in procedures for the operations and maintenance of the hyperbaric program. The Certified Hyperbaric Technician will assume responsibility for patients, along with other appropriately trained staff, while patients are undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Currently Licensed/Certified EMT with state or national licensure/certification.
  • Valid Driver's License with positive driving history. A Chauffeur's License is required in some states.
  • 2+ years of experience in wound care or hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from approved agency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to treat others with compassion and patience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • All employees are required to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of NFPA-99, PVHO, CGA, US Navy Dive Tables, NBDHMT, UHMS, and other related hyperbaric codes, standards, & organizations required.
  • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) required.
  • 1+ years of training experience in the medical field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, particularly SharePoint preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient observations, assesses patients prior to and after treatment, takes vitals, blood glucose, auscultates lungs (as needed), and uses otoscope to visualize patient's tympanic membrane (as needed).
  • Evaluates chamber equipment / supplies used in the chamber and ensures they are approved by the Corporate Safety Director, as well as all the safety requirements before permitted inside the chamber.
  • Maintains HBO chamber logs/checklists (daily, weekly, and monthly) in accordance with the chamber manufacturer guidelines and clinical processes.
  • Maintains a safe environment in the unit for patients and staff and ensures the adequate and safe decompression of all personnel within a hyperbaric exposure.
  • Informs personnel, and patients when required, of any special working conditions such as infection control, hazardous material control, confined spaces, etc. and provides adequate training for those environments.
  • Under the direction of the physician, Program Director/Assistant Director, or RN performs direct patient care to wound patients.
  • Proficient in emergency hyperbaric and fire safety procedures and conducts & documents safety drills with staff.
  • Provides patient education on hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Coordinates safety related events and reports appropriate items to facilitate staff education.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with the requirements of JCS, NFPA 99, PVHO, UHMS, NBDHMT, and all other applicable unit safety policies.
  • Conducts training in chamber maintenance and operations and complies with published preventative maintenance schedules, and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures continuous patient supervision during each hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment.
  • Assists in coordinating patient scheduling, obtaining new patient phone intakes, and obtaining additional clinical documentation.
  • Acts as a safety advocate and manage the hyperbaric safety environment.
  • Assists with updating safety policies and procedures.
  • Assists with patient transporting as needed.
  • Responsible for thorough and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system in timely manner according to organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Consistently adheres to company, hospital, and accrediting body clinical, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Ensures compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by safeguarding patient information and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality standards.
  • May be responsible for participating in the onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
