About The Position

We are seeking a Certified Family Peer Specialist to join our team! The Certified Family Peer Specialist is part of the team which provide coordinated services to clients. Services are provided at various locations which can include the clients home, community or Zumbro Valley Health Center offices. You will model wellness, advocacy, and hopefulness. About Us: Since 1966, Zumbro Valley Health Center has been serving our community as a non-profit organization. We serve the twelve-county region of Southeast MN and have over 240 employees. We are one of the few providers in the state, to provide such an integrative and comprehensive care to all children, adults, and families. In order to provide an integrative approach, we offer a wide variety of services including Outpatient Psychotherapy and Substance Use, Inpatient Residential Treatment, Withdrawal Management and Detoxification, Housing, Skills – Based Training and Targeted Case Management for adults and children, and more.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Have raised or are currently raising a child with a mental illness
  • Be currently navigating or have experience navigating the children's mental health system
  • Successfully complete the Department of Human Services-approved Certified Family Peer Specialist Training and certification exam
  • Valid Driver's License and proof of Auto Insurance

  • Meet the qualifications of a Mental Health Practitioner preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide family peer support to build on a member’s family's strengths and help the family achieve desired outcomes
  • Provide non-adversarial advocacy to a child and the child's family that encourages partnership and promotes the child's positive change and growth
  • Support families in advocating for culturally appropriate services for a child in each treatment setting
  • Promote resiliency, self-advocacy, and development of natural supports
  • Support maintenance of skills learned from other services
  • Establish and lead parent support groups
  • Assist parents in developing coping and problem-solving skills
  • Educate parents about mental illnesses and community resources, including resources that connect parents with similar experiences to one another
