Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical tools and hospital equipment. It is your job to make sure that the sterilized tools are then organized into trays containing the instruments required for routine or special surgeries. You are also responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is in good repair and up to date. This role supports departmental initiatives to meet productivity standards and flexible staffing needs. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM, including rotating weekend call requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER)
  • Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas
  • Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking system to perform assigned duties (e.g., obtaining instrument count sheets, special handling instructions for instrumentation, documenting sterilization loads and other tasks)
  • Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Basic computer skills
  • Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing

Responsibilities

  • Perform case pull functions.
  • Properly handle equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
  • Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
  • Assemble, wrap and label instruments according to provided lists.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation.
  • Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform record-keeping functions (e.g. processing, sterilization and quality assurance).
  • Participate in in-service education.
  • Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
