As a Certified Athletic Trainer, you will assist the physician in providing quality care to patients by accurately determining and communicating the patient's current and previous medical condition, utilizing triage skills, taking patient histories, performing initial evaluations, providing instruction on exercise prescriptions and general patient education while helping to maintain patient flow. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training
  • Licensure/Certifications
  • Entry Level Graduates NATA certification
  • NYS ATC License
  • R NATABOC Certification
  • Knowledge of Physical Therapy practices
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Certification through NATABOC.
  • Current licensure maintained
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Must be a member in good standing with the National Athletic Training Association (NATA).
  • Entry-level graduates with NATA certification will be considered.
  • Knowledge of Physical Therapy practices

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred in Athletic Training from an Accredited Institution
  • Prior experience working in orthopedic practice preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fitting the patient with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other various durable medical equipment as directed by the attending physician. The incumbent will also educate the patient on the appropriate use of the equipment provided to the patient.
  • Preparing patients for injections that will be performed by the attending physician. Preparations include cleaning and disinfecting the area to be injected and preparing materials to be utilized both prior to and after the injection.
  • Removal of sutures or staples and providing dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician.
  • Counsel patient regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes. May include surgical and position appropriate administrative/clerical responsibilities.
  • Review pre-operative instructions and explains the surgical process to patient
  • Formulates, coordinates and updates patient care plan from pre-operative to post-operative
  • Collects pre-operative clearance data to be shared with physicians.
  • May be needed for patient positioning, retraction, suction, and wound closure as discretion of physician
  • Knowledge and skill of sterile prep and draping in OR
  • May be needed for patient positioning, retraction, suction, and wound closure as discretion of physician
  • Reviews post-operative discharge instructions with patients including wound care and pain management.
  • Set up examination rooms at the start of each day and cleans rooms in-between patient visits and at the end of the day.
  • Perform administrative aspects of patient care, i.e. schedules, attendance records, charges, insurance requirements, etc.
  • Ensures documentation is in accordance with the department policy.
  • Ensures all DME supplies are in stock and compliant with the needs of the practice.
