About The Position

This is a full-time position in the Orthopedics Department at Methodist Hospital. This individual will be working with providers(s) in an outpatient clinic under the supervision of the clinic/practice manager and provider(s). The ATC will perform duties associated with direct patient care in accordance with the organization standards. The ATC will assist the providers with in-office procedures, treatments, casting, patient education, and assuring efficient patient flow. Patient education will range from explaining next steps in the treatment plan, to educate patients through a home exercise program or bracing. This individual may perform computerized provider order entry per provider. The ATC participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve set outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. This position may perform duties associated with symptom-management, direct in-clinic patient care, telehealth patient care, quality improvement activities and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Athletic Training is required.
  • Indiana State Athletic Training Licensure or eligible required.
  • Must be a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or Red Cross Professional Rescuer required.
  • Other certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • 0-3 years of experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Rooming: vitals, history and physical exam, determine if x-rays are needed, present to physician
  • Placing needed orders per provider PT, MRI/CT, etc.
  • Preparing any in office procedures (Injections, aspirations, ultrasound exams, PRP, etc.)
  • Global period patients: complete history, physical examination, and plan of care based on physician recommendations
  • Triaging and addressing patient calls and messaging
  • Obtaining prior authorization per provider request
  • Manage paperwork including, but not limited to FMLA, disability, workers comp, etc.
  • Casting/splinting
  • Staple or stitch removal
  • Wound care
  • Home exercise programs
  • Patient education
  • DME
  • Manual therapy
  • Clinical/Procedure Chart Prepping
  • Scheduling Assistance as needed
  • Medical Instrumentation Logistics
  • Prescription Education and Review
