Step Into Your Next Career Kleinfelder is seeking a Certified Arborist / Field Biologist to join our team as on-call staff. Candidates residing in the Bay Area will be prioritized. This position will report to supervisors based in the San Francisco, CA office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field; master's degree candidates also encouraged to apply
  • 6 - 10 seasons / years of field experience
  • Current ISA arborist certification
  • Comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor situations and conditions with expectation of traveling on a regular basis to project sites which may require overnight stays
  • Strong technical and academic background in an applied biological science (e.g. herpetology, terrestrial biology, ornithology, botany).
  • Previous federal and California agency approval for one or more listed Bay Area species
  • Familiarity with federal and State regulations governing management of natural resources in California
  • Possess CDFW Scientific Collecting Permit or have sufficient experience amassed to apply for the permit within 1 year
  • Effective problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record and complete a background check
  • Prior experience in natural resource consulting
  • Extensive field work throughout northern California (anticipate overnight travel 75% of time)
  • Experience monitoring or surveying for nesting birds

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in regulatory agency permit preparation and impact analyses is a plus
  • Experience with environmental review processes (CEQA/NEPA)
  • Fisheries experience is a plus
  • Extensive familiarity with California flora and fauna

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in providing environmental regulatory compliance for our clients at a variety of work locations through surveys for protected species, compliance monitoring for work crews, and written logs and reports of compliance activities. Some field work may include physically challenging outdoor situations, traveling to project sites, and overnight stays
  • Performing accurate and detailed biological resource accounts by synthesizing on-site survey findings and desktop resources
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports and addressing impacts of mitigation of proposed activities on special-status species
  • Providing environmental regulatory compliance for our clients through surveys for protected species, compliance monitoring for work crews, and written logs and reports of compliance activities.
  • Conducting focused and general planning and preconstruction surveys (trees primarily, may include nesting birds, rare plants, and amphibian surveys)
  • Comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor environments in all types of weather
  • Traveling on a regular basis to a project which may require overnight stays
  • Strong technical and academic background in an applied biological science
  • Effective problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with MS Office
  • The ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Must has a satisfactory driving record and complete a background check
