About The Position

Benchmark Human Services has grown to become one of the most respected organizations in the country in the areas of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and behavioral health. We work with people at home, work, and in the community through residential, employment, crisis response, recovery, behavioral, children's services, and day services. Our California Active Consulting team in LA County, CA is currently recruiting for a dual-credentialed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor/Registered Behavior Technician (CADC/RBT) to provide direct services to individuals at high risk of placement disruption, supporting crisis stabilization, recovery coaching, and behavioral skill acquisition across home, provider agency, and community settings. The position works collaboratively within Active Consulting's interdisciplinary team, building the capacity of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), caregivers, and family members to sustain evidence-based behavioral and recovery support strategies between clinical contacts. Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a human or social services related field required.
Must possess an active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification in the State of California, maintained in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) throughout employment or secure RBT certification within 90 days of employment.
Active certification or licensure as an Addiction Treatment Counselor, Substance Use Disorder Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor as required by applicable California state regulations.
Minimum two (2) years of experience working with individuals with behavioral health diagnoses.
Valid BLS CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
Crisis de-escalation training certification (e.g., Crisis Prevention Institute [CPI] or equivalent).
Valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance.
Computer literacy sufficient to fulfill documentation, data collection, and reporting requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge of SUD treatment modalities and evidence-based practices, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and solution-focused approaches.
Working knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, behavior support plan implementation, and data collection procedures consistent with the RBT Task List.
Understanding of IDD, co-occurring behavioral health diagnoses, and the specific clinical presentations common to this population.
Proficiency in conducting comprehensive assessments and translating findings into actionable, person-centered treatment and support plans.
Familiarity with legal and ethical requirements applicable to substance use counseling and behavior technician practice, including mandatory reporting obligations
Capacity to work independently in field settings, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound professional judgment under supervisory oversight

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field from an accredited college or university
One year of experience working with individuals with IDD diagnoses

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments through structured clinical interviews, collateral sources, evidence-based screening instruments, review of diagnostic history, and direct observation to inform individualized treatment planning.
Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans that reflect each individual's strengths, functional capacities, recovery goals, and support needs, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Facilitate individual counseling sessions to address the root causes of substance use, develop coping and relapse-prevention strategies, and build resilience and self-efficacy.
Facilitate group therapy sessions that foster peer support, psychoeducation on recovery, and skill generalization in a structured therapeutic environment.
Provide face-to-face and virtual coaching and training to DSPs, agency staff, and caregivers of participating IDD/BH providers
Assist agency staff with the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical treatment plans and BSPs, integrating
Provide crisis assessment, de-escalation, and stabilization support to individuals and provider teams as required
Model and coach positive behavioral support strategies during escalated situations, applying trained crisis intervention techniques and verbal de-escalation skill
Implement Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and skill-acquisition programs as designed and assigned by the supervising BCBA
Collect, record, and summarize behavioral and treatment plan data and present summaries during team/provider meetings.
Assist with Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) activities as directed, including conducting structured interviews with caregivers and provider staff and conducting systematic observations of targeted behaviors
Complete all clinical documentation, behavioral data records, treatment plan updates, and service notes accurately
Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the department director and appropriate authorities
