About The Position

SUMMARY: The purpose of this classification is to provide outpatient counseling services to participants in the County’s Drug Court. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Ensures compliance with established rules and guidelines governing participation in County Drug Court; monitors compliance; identifies and reports deviations or violations. Performs general in-take assessment: interviews and orients referred participants to Drug Court programs; answers questions and provides information regarding program services, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, court-ordered obligations, expectations, or other issues; gathers and documents personal information, medical and family history, and other information to assess participant’s needs, strengths and weaknesses, and eligibility for other services; makes referrals to in-patient treatment as needed. Develops treatment plan to meet participant’s immediate needs establishes goals and timelines; identifies barriers to sobriety; and works with participants to overcome barriers. Conducts comprehensive substance abuse counseling; utilizes individual, group, family, crisis intervention, and client education counseling services; provides education, motivation and support to assist participants in obtaining skills to recover from addiction and in identifying and changing unhealthy behaviors, attitudes and beliefs. Provides on-going counseling and case management; monitors participant progress toward established goals; reviews attendance reports, drug screens, support systems, court records, etc.; provides relapse education; makes referrals for related community and mental health services as needed; maintains comprehensive case records; prepares and submits required reports. Attends staff and team meetings; provides information and insight to progress of participants. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, memos, client charts and assessments, court reports, after care documents, and other documents; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records. Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, emails, client charts, surveillance reports, assessments, medical records, policies, procedures, manuals and other reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • CERTIFIED ADDICTION COUNSELOR I: High School Diploma or GED is required; supplemented by two years of counseling under a licensed counselor; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid certification from the Georgia Addiction Counselors’ Association.
  • CERTIFIED ADDICTION COUNSELOR II: Bachelor’s Degree is required; supplemented by three years of counseling under a licensed counselor; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid certification from Georgia Addiction Counselor’s Association.

Responsibilities
