About The Position

This position is responsible for documenting the inspection of materials, making certification reports to the central Bureau of Materials, and directing Independent Assurance functions within the materials database for the district. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is seeking to hire a Certified/Material Database Technician. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires districtwide travel with extensive same-day travel and occasional overnight stays.
  • Requires overtime.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

  • Understanding of highway construction activities and the technical language used.

  • Working knowledge of the department’s Construction Materials Management System (CMMS).
  • Working knowledge of the use of electronic online storage databases such as (SharePoint).

  • Ability to resolve conflict.

Responsibilities

  • Preforms quality assurance on assigned materials to construction projects for quantity and material compliance.
  • Reviews, tabulates and compiles inspection reports and prepares certification reports.
  • Secures missing information and reports.
  • Directs the independent assurance functions in the district.
  • Interprets data supplied by materials database.
  • Trains, motivates and evaluates staff to ensure a well-developed and competent staff. Ensures staff compliance with all departmental safety rules and practices.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
