About The Position

QUALIFICATIONS        Education High school diploma or GED Diploma from an accredited surgical technology program or documented on-the-job training program       Experience/Skills Possesses at least one year experience as a surgery tech Proficiently reads, writes, and understands English Accurately reads supply labels, patient identification bracelets, the surgical schedule, and policies and procedures Constantly walks, stands, bends, and stoops Pushes and pulls heavy objects such as gurneys and patient beds Lifts patients, heavy boxes weighing up to 40 pounds, and instrument sets weighing up to 20 pounds Lifts surgical supplies above the head when necessary       Required Licenses/Certifications Certified Surgical Technologist CPR       Working Conditions Works in an air-conditioned environment with a temperature of 65ºF-72ºF and humidity of 45%-55% Works in temperatures up to 85ºF-90ºF when assigned to assist with pediatric cases Wears hospital-provided scrub attire while on duty Works in an environment with the potential for cuts, bruises, muscle strains, and exposure to contagious diseases via blood and body fluids Works in an environment with the potential for exposure to anesthetic waste gases, harsh disinfectants, sterilizing agents, high steam pressure, and radiologic factors ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIES        Behavioral Expectations Consistently complies with established Behavioral Expectations        Pre-Op, Intra Op and Post Op Duties Conducts identification of patient procedure Readies patient for surgery Prepares room, equipment, and supplies for procedure Assists with patient positioning Provides scrub services for major and minor surgical cases Performs second assisting duties under the supervision of a qualified surgeon Provides services for endoscopy procedures Transports patients to designated area Performs operating room sanitation tasks Restocks rooms and supplies Accepts other duties as assigned       Operating Room Materials Services Duties Receives, sorts, decontaminates, cleans, and sterilizes surgical items Maintains cleaning equipment and sterilizers Assembles and wraps instrument trays Maintains stock levels       Technical Subject Matter Expert Duties Updates surgeon preference cards Inventories and orders specialty instruments & supplies unique to surgical service Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment unique to surgical service        Department Specific Duties Performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care Participates in the departmental quality improvement (SQM) activities Meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements Participates in student teaching activities Upholds Nursing Services philosophy and objectives Contributes to organizational effectiveness Participates in opportunities for career growth and development Works 8-10 hour shifts as assigned by the Surgical Services Coordinator Accepts weekend, evening, and night on-call shifts assigned on a rotating basis

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
