About The Position

This position ensures all clinical services in the Oyate Health Center facility have clean, sterile tools and equipment readily available for delivering patient care.

Requirements

  • Participates in Core Connections training and applies GPTLHB Core Connections concepts and practices in their work.
  • Familiarity and/or experience working with American Indian populations and respect for and knowledge of traditional, cultural, and spiritual practices of diverse American Indian communities, as well as an ability to work with other culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Internet technologies.
  • Valid driver’s license must be kept current, and certificates, credentials or licenses must be kept current and consistent with regulations required by applicable federal, state and/or grant regulations as applies to position.
  • Work in a cooperative and professional manner with OHC and GPTLHB staff.
  • Treat Great Plains tribes and collaborators with dignity and respect.
  • Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advance personal educational development by attending training sessions and seminars as appropriate.

  • high school diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience.
  • Completion of a formal training program or an associate’s degree and one (1) year of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Certified SPD; Three (3) years of service at Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board/Oyate Health Center; OR demonstrated proficiency as Central Sterilization Technician at Level I
  • Completion of a formal training program or an associate’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or GED and five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Certified SPD; Five (5) years of service at Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board/Oyate Health Center; OR demonstrated proficiency as Central Sterilization Technician at Level II
  • Employment is contingent upon the outcome of all required criminal background checks.

Jobs require that you have documentation that you have completed the following immunizations prior to your first day of employment: MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Influenza, T-dap (Tetanus - Diphtheria - Pertussis), and COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing medical equipment and instruments for decontamination.
  • Operating equipment to clean, disinfect, and decontaminate surgical instruments, medical devices, and equipment.
  • Inspecting instruments and equipment for signs of damage and wear and tear.
  • Unpacking, checking, and stocking new equipment, SPD specific, and devices.
  • Delivering equipment and supplies to all areas of the facility.
  • Responsive to instrument requests during peak procedure times.
  • Maintaining accurate records of when items undergo sterilization.
  • Monitoring temperature and humidity conditions within storage areas.
  • Maintain inventory of all instruments and recommended Instructions for Use (IFU) based on individual instruments.
  • Organize workflow to fulfill sterilization needs efficiently.
  • Comply with federal laws & regulations as required - Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Acts as team lead to assist Central Sterile Technicians (CSTs) in problem-solving more complicated issues.
  • Provides a high level of support to the Infection Prevention Officer, including leading projects related to team productivity, skills, quality, etc.
  • Facilitates orientation, training, and mentoring new hires and other training initiatives. Supports the CST team by providing training to each team member to ensure they have the skills and training necessary to successfully complete their duties.
  • Leadership duties include focusing on the constant improvement of process, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • May collaborate with other healthcare leadership to provide efficient, quality Relative care and evaluate and improve training practices.
