Requirements

  • Certification in Central Sterile Processing or Certified within 1 year of hire
  • Must be willing to seek out new principles and methods, and be willing to incorporate them into CSS practices.
  • Must be conscientious in regard to technical and detailed procedures.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and nomenclature of sterilization procedures and techniques.
  • Must be able to work successfully with computers and instrument management systems.

Responsibilities

  • The Central Sterile Technician assumes responsibility for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies, instrumentation and equipment dispensed to all surgical locations and other house-wide areas.
  • Also participates in receipt, storage and distribution of supplies needed for Operating Room case carts as well as single supplies needed by patient care departments throughout the facility.
