About The Position

UPMC St. Margaret Hospital is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to join our Central Sterile Processing Department. This vital department is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. Technicians play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control. About Sterile Processing • Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment. • Assemble instrument trays and ensure proper functioning of equipment. • Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and inventory. • Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to ensure timely delivery of sterile supplies. • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures related to infection control and safety. Shift Details: • Regular shift: 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM • Orientation Training schedule: Daylight hours from 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM Orientation Period Timeframe: • Typically lasts 4 months. • Duration may vary depending on individual progression in the position. • Some employees may require extended orientation, while others may transition sooner. Sign-On Bonus: Total bonus of $5,000 with a 2-year commitment to UPMC Non-certified candidates: • $2,500 awarded within 90 days of hire. • Additional $2,500 awarded upon certification completion. Requirements

  • HSD/GED OR 1 year of experience within UPMC
  • Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
  • Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date 12/27/2020, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification.
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification required for our PA and NY facilities. New employees in our PA and NY facilities will have 18 months from date of hire to obtain required certification.
