About The Position

Clearly understands the overall Central Service operation and daily expectation or requirements as a department to fulfill the customer (patient care givers) needs and provides the necessary intervention to achieve the required expectation. Reviews the daily work/task schedule for individual assignment and fulfills the expectations with little to no supervision required as the result of customer complaints or concerns. Makes frequent/scheduled rounds for pickup of discontinued equipment then performs activities as required in the decontamination area for the processes of disinfecting patient care equipment or reusable supplies Follows all established standards for inspection of patient equipment to validate the “good working order” of such equipment for distribution, which includes battery check or replacement and notifies the Materials Coordinator if any intervention for repair is required. Also, stores such equipment in the appropriate supply locations and ensures rechargeable batteries on equipment are plugged at all times. Performs activities associated with the distribution of supplies, equipment, specialty carts, specialty beds, and inspects all products or equipment for “good working order” before confirming release. Reports immediately to the Team Leader any or all situations that may affect the Central Service Department in achieving effective and efficient flow of operations in regards to supplies and equipment that is used for patient care. Inventories and restocks all specialty carts in the department ensuring all the correct supplies, equipment, and quantities are recorded and or scanned then items are picked and expenses as deemed appropriate. Some of these carts are used for life and death situations. Responsible for timely delivery, pickup, and transfer of the Blood Glucose monitoring device or Glucommanders used in all patient care areas. Responsible for data entry of all supplies issues and/or credited and also scanning out all patient care equipment as well as the timely ordering of all specialty beds and equipment for patient care.

  • High School diploma required with the ability to pass a written exam for basic reading, writing, arithmetic, and general problem solving skills.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year in a position providing customer service.
  • Must have good customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate very good judgment and communication skills on daily operational issues to ensure customer service and patient care needs are met.
  • Must be willing and able to assume daily outcome accountability for the scheduled assignment in order to meet patient care/safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules to accommodate 24/7 responsibilities.
  • Must be computer literate to utilize Prism (Patient Care System), EHS (Materials Management System) and Asset Trakker (Equipment Management System) in order to meet the requirements of our customers/patient care providers.
  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self directed to complete jobs as ordered.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
  • If job class is identified as falling under POPE C, the individual must pass the cardiac recovery test.
  • Works in hospital and clinical environments.
  • May work in extreme heat with hot materials.
  • Must be able to utilize appropriate universal and specific precautions for protection from potential exposure to infectious or communicable diseases.

  • Prefer a candidate with a minimum of one (1) year of warehouse and distribution background and general awareness of infection control principles.
