About The Position

The Central Services Coordinator is a critical member of Peri-operative Services and the Interventional Platform, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for coordinating and supporting all Central Services activities across procedural areas by ensuring complete, accurate, and timely availability of sterile instrumentation, supplies, and implants. Serving as a key liaison between Central Services, Interventional Services, and clinical teams, the Central Services Coordinator proactively plans for scheduled procedures, manages shared and limited resources, and responds in real time to procedural needs. Through strong communication, advanced technical knowledge, and operational oversight, this role helps maintain optimal workflow, equipment readiness, and procedural continuity across multiple departments. Requirements

  • Coursework/Training Completion of a Central Service Technician course or completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Course or equivalent Operating Room experience
  • Upon hire: National Certified Registered Central Service Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association --or-- National Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
  • 4 years of recent experience in a Central Services Department --or-- 2 years recent scrub experience in an Operating Room environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a large multi-specialty facility with more than 8 operating rooms
  • Prior experience working with an instrument tracking system, such as InstaCount Plus and PeopleSoft

Responsibilities

  • Ensure each procedure and sterile core area is supported with complete, accurate, and on-time sterile instrumentation, supplies, and implants.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the daily activities of Materials Distribution Technicians, Sterile Processing Technicians, and Central Services Technicians to maintain instrument, supply, and equipment equilibrium.
  • Communicate current and future instrument, supply, and implant needs to key stakeholders to effectively support clinical operations.
  • Collaborate with Central Services and Interventional Services to proactively plan for scheduled procedures.
  • Partner with clinical staff and fellow Central Services Coordinators to manage shared or limited resources across procedures and departments.
  • Manage standard and rapid instrument turnover, including monitoring and appropriate use of flash sterilization.
  • Respond immediately to case cart issues and additional instrument or supply needs during active procedures.
  • Support quality management efforts by performing routine audits of instrument sets, case carts, and surgeon preference lists for accuracy and completeness.
  • Drive process improvement by collaborating with clinical teams to ensure optimal accuracy and utilization of instruments and materials on preference lists.
  • Develop and maintain advanced knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment for assigned surgical specialties, while retaining general procedural knowledge.
  • Assist with the management and coordination of vendor instrument sets, as applicable.
  • Collaborate with Instrument Resource Technicians and Specialty Charge RNs to ensure proper location, availability, and management of core instrumentation and supplies.
  • Perform materials management and/or sterile processing functions as needed to support operational demands.
  • May serve in a Lead capacity when required, providing oversight of efficient daily operations through staffing coordination, resource allocation, and serving as a preceptor or trainer for new staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
