About The Position

The Central Service Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper functioning of medical instruments and equipment used throughout healthcare facilities. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Central Service Technician training program or equivalent experience in sterile processing.
  • Basic knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle medical instruments safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a hospital or clinical sterile processing department.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and electronic record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of biomedical equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment using appropriate methods and sterilization technologies.
  • Inspect instruments for damage or wear and perform minor repairs or coordinate with biomedical services for maintenance.
  • Assemble surgical instrument sets according to established protocols and ensure their readiness for upcoming procedures.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Adhere to infection control policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to prioritize instrument processing based on surgical schedules and emergencies.
  • Operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and washers.
