About The Position

Cleans, wraps, autoclaves and distributes sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. Checks for proper functioning of surgical instruments. Monitors all sterilizers, room temperature, humidity, and warming cabinets. Keep all documentation of sterilization records including all flash records and all flexible scopes processed in System ones.

Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • License, Certification and/or Registration: BLS Preferred
  • Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations to assemble supplies, and to prepare labels and routine records.
  • Must be able to follow oral and /or written directions; operate, safely and efficiently, various automatic sterilizing equipment and acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures and ability to identify large number of various instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans instruments after each case according to established policies and procedures.
  • Checks to ensure instruments are in proper working order, reporting any malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
  • Assists in maintaining current inventory of surgical instruments.
  • Decontamination; Receives instruments and utilizes PPE attire
  • Operation of the Washer Decontaminator Unit
  • Washes and sterilizes instruments and trays for various areas in hospital according to established procedures.
  • Prep-Area Dry and separate instruments and sets up trays and containers, and packs according to count sheet
  • Properly label instruments.
  • Make special packs as required.
  • Chooses appropriate means of sterilization.
  • Assembles, wraps, labels, and steam sterilizes instrument packs and trays. Utilizes proper sterilizer integrator or indicator for sterilizer used.
  • Sterilize instruments and supplies required by various departments and according to established procedures in steam sterilizer and Sterrad sterilizer.
  • Signs out supplies as requested.
  • Equipment operation: Demonstrates ability to operate steam sterilizers in SPD and in O.R. successfully
  • Follows recommended guideline for loading and unloading steam cart.
  • Cleans steam sterilizers weekly.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate Sterrad sterilizer
  • Follows recommended guidelines for loading Sterrad Unit
  • Follows recommended guideline for packing instruments in double peel pouch for sterilization
  • Assist with quality assurance activities.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform daily monitoring of all sterilizers and System One in SPD and O.R.
  • Accurately documents daily temperature and humidity in O.R. Rooms and C.S. Rooms X 15 and temperature of warming cabinets X 5
  • Reports Out Of Range values to appropriate department for resolution.
  • Successfully performs other duties as assigned.
