Based in the Prairie-Forest Border Ecoregion of Central Minnesota, our Burn Crew Members (BCM) participate in prescribed fire operations which include ignition, holding, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, burn break preparation, and other tasks as assigned. As part of the BCM’s ongoing professional development, you will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials. In addition, you will work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. This will include participation in prescribed fire activities in partnership with other non-profits, local, state and federal agencies, and tribal or indigenous communities, as a TNC employee. You will also assist with maintaining preserve areas frequented by the visiting public, maintaining tools and equipment, and perform other land management activities. This includes removing exotic species, conducting species monitoring, and/or removing trees and brush. You may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and uneven terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
