About The Position

The Senior Building Inspector is responsible for the supervision, inspection and enforcement work ensuring and maintaining compliance with law and regulations relative to construction, alteration, and repair.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Development Services with municipal government, building construction, subdivision, municipal building plans, zoning review, or permit issuance
  • Minimum of two (2) of those years must include supervisory experience
  • ICC Certification (Residential Building Inspector and Commercial Building Inspector) required within 6 months of hire.
  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Building Inspector program assuring that the minimum standards of the City's Adopted Codes & Ordinances are met.
  • Supervise and occasionally participate in the inspection of building construction projects and in the examination of completed projects for workmanship, the use of proper materials and adherence to safety standards.
  • Receive complaints regarding defective building construction work and investigate or assign complaints to subordinate inspectors for investigation.
  • Respond to inquiries from reviewers, inspectors, architects, engineers, and other customers regarding the building codes.
  • Consult with and advise subordinates concerning changes in the law governing the operations of the section, new developments in the field and proper methods of inspection.
  • Study building ordinances of other cities and new developments and installations with view to determine the adequacy of local ordinances.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Provide final review to and approval of inspections, review alternate methods of materials for compliance while conducting inspections within the scope of authority delegated by the Assistant Director, Deputy Building Official or the Building Official/Director.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
