About The Position

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise. This internship is a part of a 10-week full-time summer internship program opportunity. This role will be based at Archer’s headquarters in San Jose, California and relocation or housing will not be provided. Archer is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join Archer. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience within the Cell Engineering team.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s or bachelor’s degree program related to engineering, manufacturing, computer science, physics or a related field at an accredited university
  • First principles understanding of electrical circuits, heat transfer, and basic control systems
  • Good proficiency writing in Python for data analysis and/or feedback control systems
  • Experience with Arduino or similar microcontrollers; basic proficiency writing in C/C++
  • High regard for designing systems around human experience and safety
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Battery knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with CAD software like NX (preferred)/SolidWorks/AutoCAD
  • Experience using version control systems (Git, Bitbucket) to manage a project codebase
  • Experience with SQL

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a small team of engineers on creative solutions to collect and analyze data to best characterize lithium-ion battery cells and how to best utilize them in Archer’s eVTOL aircraft
  • Develop software and firmware to control and monitor our in-house designed battery testing fixture
  • Perform electrical characterization tests on lithium-ion battery cells using battery cell cyclers
  • Analyze data to evaluate performance of battery cells and battery cell testing fixtures
