About The Position

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. About the role Archer is seeking a motivated cell modeling engineer so that we can develop some of the most accurate cell models in the industry. As a member of the Battery Cell Engineering team, you will be responsible for the development, validation, and maintenance of models that describe the electrical behavior of cells over their operational life.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or similar
  • Experience developing battery cell electrical models
  • Experience characterizing and describing degradation of battery cells
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Python
  • Experience with battery cell testing and data analysis
  • A product-oriented approach and understanding of how your work impacts vehicle performance
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • An understanding of the construction and design of commercial lithium-ion battery cells
  • Experience with high voltage battery design for EVs, aerospace, or similar applications
  • Familiarity with Arbin battery cyclers

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize equivalent circuit models that accurately describe cell electrical behavior over a wide variety of operational conditions and over life.
  • Develop models that characterize and predict cell aging and degradation.
  • Write test plans to parameterize cell models and validate model accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain cell test databases and data pipelines.
  • Work cross-functionally with BMS and vehicle simulation teams to identify and close gaps in model accuracy or implementation.
