All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided for the internship program at this time. Position Summary: High Throughput Clone & Culture Condition Screening Cell culture is at the core of any recombinant protein production project. Our new protein products are key components of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes, including those for emerging cell therapies. With increased availability of advanced technologies, it becomes possible to improve yields, shorten lead times, facilitate purification, and improve product quality by creating and screening more expression clones in diverse cell culture conditions. This is an ideal position for an intern who desires to gain interdisciplinary experience at the crossroads of molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, automation, and protein chemistry.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship
  • Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college
  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program
  • A good academic understanding of basic biochemistry, microbiology, and cell biology principles will be applied in modern industrial settings
  • Ability to conclude the summer program with a formal presentation on the completed project

Responsibilities

  • The goal of the project is to design and/or improve strategies for discovery and development of optimal clones.
  • The primary focus on increasing throughput by using innovative strategies combined with automated platforms, robotics, and computer technology, the techniques may involve one or more of the following listed Design and cloning of expression vectors, cell line creation and selection, cell culture condition screening, protein expression analysis by electrophoretic and immunochemical techniques, and protein affinity purification techniques
  • The expression systems employed include E. coli and mammalian cell lines
