The Costco Digital Services Division is inviting students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university to participate in a twelve -week paid internship program during 2026. Interns will work within specific areas in Costco’s Information Systems Division. Interns will attend presentations given by various members of Executive Management from IT and other areas of the Company. Interns will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Housing is not provided. The program runs mid June to early September and is located in Issaquah, WA. No out of state work allowed. All interns will adhere to the CDS hybrid work model of three days onsite and two days remote. Costco’s Database Platforms team manages modern database engines to support the company’s key business requirements. The team is responsible for the lifecycle of databases as well the development of tools to help our customers interface with our application. Software engineers on the team are responsible for developing tools that: automate parts of the database lifecycle; aid in discovery of database assets; and monitor databases. The intern will be supported by other engineers and database administrators to augment or build new tools that help customer teams interface with databases easier. The team focus is enhancing the engineering capabilities including automation, integrated monitoring and enhanced alerting with the objective of effective and timely issue resolution. NOTE: While participating in the IT Internship program, an individual will be classified as an hourly temporary employee for the duration of the program. During the program, the individual may be asked to undergo the normal interview process for a level 1 position. If the individual is offered a position, they will be converted to the employment status matching open job they were selected for. If they are not selected for a regular position, the internship position will be complete in a maximum of twelve weeks.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle and ability to execute at each step.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell etc.).
  • Experience with full-stack software development of data intensive applications.
  • Proficient in the Agile methodology and is capable of setting and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with at least one of the major database flavors (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess good organizational, time, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, and stay well organized.
  • Currently maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced in developing software on .NET 8.0 and Angular 18.0 frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Azure/Google Cloud and experienced with developing decoupled architectures.
  • Proficient in data modeling and capability to learn new database technologies as needed.
  • Strong understanding of databases and where they fit into an application’s architecture.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
