This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor II (CSLTS II) is a Licensed Central Plant/Boiler Operator Lieutenant for the Buena Vista Correctional Complex, a Colorado Department of Corrections prison facility, located in Buena Vista, CO. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and offenders; supervising subordinate staff and offender workers and ensuring the safe and efficient operations of the Central Plant and emergency services of associated systems. Safety & Security - position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains and guides staff and offenders in comprehensive key, tool, equipment, and chemical control and use as well as correct reporting procedures; position performs inmate counts, shakedowns, cell and work area searches, offender escorts and transportation, movement control and the proper application of restraints and force; accounts for all tools in the Central Plants at the end of each shift. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment. Supervision - provides supervision of assigned staff and offender workers; promotes a high level of performance by setting the work standard according to agency mission, vision and values. Trains and instructs staff and offenders in the appropriate use of all relevant tools, equipment and procedures to ensure efficient, safe and effective completion of assigned tasks; stresses safe labor practices and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self, staff and offenders; exemplifies a professional workforce that embodies honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior. Staff Supervision - assists in hiring process by interviewing applicants and making recommendations for appointment and promotion; coaches and mentors assigned staff in order to ensure required annual training, promote teamwork and opportunity and resolve problems; trains staff in policy and methods of supervision, agency Administrative Regulations, facility Operational Memoranda, Posted Operational Rules and Post Orders; creates staff performance plans; clearly communicates goals and expectations while seeking employee input and concerns; monitors and documents performance in order to support corrective and disciplinary actions, as well as development of employee evaluations and plans; conducts performance evaluations, resolves informal grievances; creates schedules, assigns tasks, inspects work; approves time, monitors employee hours, and enters payroll information. Offender Supervision - participates in offender classification and hiring process by interviewing and reviewing offender file to ensure appropriate assignments and training; tracks and calculates offender hours and pay, creates schedule and assigns tasks, inspects work and performs offender evaluations; trains offenders in the proper use of all relevant tools, equipment and procedures; reduces offender idleness and creates real life work opportunities to prepare for community re-entry. Operations - position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost effective operation and maintenance of the Central Plant, Emergency Generation Plants and peripheral HVAC and plumbing systems at the Buena Vista Complex; plans projects, estimates supplies, equipment and cost and makes recommendations to improve efficiency and appearance and conserve resources; evaluates projects, completes job layout based on design and function of project; prioritizes tasks, assigns duties, orders supplies and ensures timely implementation while coordinating with other trades projects and/or emergent or unique conditions; ensures prompt emergency services for central plant plumbing and HVAC, detention, and security equipment, as well as all other door hardware to include gates and sliders. Position is subject to the following: Facility call back and working extra hours or shifts in order to maintain safety and security; Working in high, tight, confined spaces, and in close proximity to industrial equipment; Working outdoors during inclement weather.
