CCR Permitting Specialist (Engineer/Geologist/Scientist) - Environmental Affairs Please Note: You will be required to be IN THE OFFICE @ 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA a minimum of four (4) days per week and/or as additionally required. You will be required to travel daily and/or overnight approximately 25% of the time, at times with very short to no advanced notice. Relocation assistance may be offered if needed and if you qualify. JOB SUMMARY Georgia Power is hiring an engineer or scientist with 3-15 years of experience for our Environmental Affairs Team based in Atlanta, Georgia. This role focuses on applying solid waste permitting, groundwater corrective action, and compliance strategies across our operations. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and eager to work in the coal combustion residuals (CCR) rule compliance space. You will work closely with our internal technical and regulatory teams as well as with third-party consultants, regulators, vendors, and industry experts.

  • Experience interpreting and applying regulations, solid waste permitting, Georgia Solid Waste rules, and CCR rule knowledge and experience are a plus.
  • Maintain internal CCR guidance materials and train employees on best management practices.
  • Complete reporting obligations to comply with the CCR rule.
  • Obtaining CCR Solid Waste Permits, licenses, and certifications.
  • Support CCR rule and CCR permit compliance at our facilities through site visits, file reviews, and review and use of Georgia Power’s Environmental Management System.
  • Collaborate with our team to find and apply cost-effective environmental solutions.
  • 3-15 years working in solid waste, environmental consulting, or another environmental compliance field.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Strong writing and speaking skills.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule, including up to 25% travel.
  • This position is primarily located at the Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, GA.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, project management, and mentoring and developing others.
  • A degree in engineering or science (geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.) is preferred.
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
  • Experience in Georgia with CCR Solid Waste Permitting or CCR Rule compliance is a plus.
  • Experience with groundwater corrective action systems and groundwater geochemistry is a plus.
