About The Position

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Category Specialist, Maintenance & Construction through April 15th 11:59 PM. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Works with business partners to define procurement and category strategies based on market insights and demand forecasts. Develops and executes category plans, leads strategic sourcing and manages supplier relationships to improve service outcomes and deliver the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). Category management segments spend into related products and services to enable better planning, standardization, and value delivery. Supports a wide range of DMC internal customers and may lead functional projects with infrequent supervision, building deep expertise in the work function. Partner with Maintenance, Operations and Construction stakeholders to understand demand, criticality, and service requirements across the Maintenance & Construction category. Lead competitive performance initiatives to improve cost competitiveness and service performance across the category. Conduct market analysis and supplier intelligence to identify trends, cost drivers, risks, and opportunities, incorporate insights into category and sourcing strategies. Develop and maintain category plans that define strategy, sourcing pipeline, supplier segmentation, contracting approach, and value delivery targets (cost, reliability, service, innovation, etc.). Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing events (RFx development, bid evaluation, negotiations, award recommendations) in alignment with governance requirements and business needs. Develop, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements to optimize total cost of ownership (TCO) and manage contract risk in partnership with Legal and other functions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Identify and implement standardization to reduce complexity and improve compliance. Support operational execution by resolving supplier or contract issues, ensuring continuity of supply/services, and escalating risks as needed. Track and report value delivery (e.g., savings, cost avoidance, performance improvements, etc.)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in sourcing/procurement and supply chain fundamentals, with working knowledge of refinery/plant maintenance and construction categories (e.g., craft labor, mechanical, scaffolding/insulation/painting, civil/structural).
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to drive category strategy, total cost of ownership, supplier/contractor performance, and supply risk mitigation in a refinery/plant environment with rigorous safety and compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in supply chain, Engineering, Construction Management, or an MBA.
  • Experience in category management supporting refinery/plant operations, including maintenance services, construction services, and turnarounds/shutdowns/outages.
  • Knowledge of contracting for refinery/plant services (e.g., MSA/SOW, turnaround scope packaging, unit rates/T&M, SLAs/KPIs, change orders) and contractor performance management aligned to site safety requirements.
  • Experience with ERP/eSourcing/procurement platforms and plant systems (e.g., SAP, SMART by GEP), including PO execution, catalogs, contract compliance, and spend analytics; continuous improvement experience (Lean/Six Sigma) is a plus
