Position Summary The Category Manager, Meat develops and executes comprehensive category strategies that meet customer needs and align with FreshDirect's business goals. This role manages pricing, assortment, and selection for the Meat category, leads vendor negotiations, and provides thought leadership on trends and innovation. The Category Manager also drives a consumer-centric selling culture through assortment management, site planning, pricing, and promotional activities - all focused-on driving top-line growth and managing profitability. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in merchandising, including product sourcing and selection within Fresh categories, and is eager to join a team of passionate food experts at FreshDirect.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in grocery retail, eCommerce, or a related merchandising/category management role.
  • Proven success in developing and executing category strategies that drive results.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • High attention to detail and exceptional follow-through.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated business, technical, and financial acumen.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a cohesive category strategy that meets customer needs and supports organizational goals.
  • Manage pricing and promotional plans to achieve sales, margin, and unit targets.
  • Lead assortment management, approving new items and overseeing discontinuations.
  • Conduct category reviews to align with customer insights, competitive trends, and innovation opportunities.
  • Build and maintain collaborative vendor relationships, including negotiation of pricing and terms.
  • Drive a consumer-centric selling culture through effective assortment, site planning, pricing, and promotional execution.
  • Establish base and promotional pricing aligned with FreshDirect's strategic and financial objectives.
  • Monitor and manage category performance metrics, including sales, gross margin, units per order, scrap, average order size, and shopper marketing revenue.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Marketing, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure flawless execution and alignment.
