Location: 850 76th Street S.W. - Byron Center, Michigan 49315 Position Summary: The Category Manager will maintain item setup, item maintenance, online content enrichment, price optimization, promotional planning, vendor setup, assortment productivity and cost negotiations, identifying assortment and product placement. The Category Manager will be customer-focused and can partner with cross-functional teams (Supply Chain, Operations, Pricing, Marketing, Business Development & Procurement) to meet financial objectives. The Category Manager demonstrates the problem-solving and analytical skills necessary to thrive in a customer focused environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Business Administration or other related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 5+ years related experience
  • Strong Project Management, analytical and presentation skills
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and strategic problem solving, leadership, analytical, influencing, and negotiations skills.
  • Proven experience working across business units to leverage resources and capabilities to accomplish company goals.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of purchasing systems, inventory systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and/or manufacturing processes based on assigned area.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

  • Produce or Fresh Grocery experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Execute the new item setup process and item maintenance.
  • Establish a deep understanding of retail stores and the independent customer, internal processes, and overall assortment (specific categories of focus will be identified after joining)
  • Utilize industry data, supplier partnerships, and internal demographic information to identify new item and brand opportunities for the category assortment
  • Implement promotion plans with cross-functional partners
  • Track and update financial reporting
  • Source, input and manage item, supplier and cost information
  • Pricing and positioning of category products
  • Partner with Supply Chain to maintain in-stock levels to support a customer first mentality, including creating initial order allocations for new and seasonal items
