The Category Leadership Manager, Dollar General reports to the Associate Director, Category Leadership Growth Channels. This position will play a critical role in shaping the future of our Dry Grocery business at Dollar General. Acting as a consultative partner and insights expert, the Category Leadership Manager influences key decisions across shelving, assortment, innovation, and the path to purchase. This role collaborates closely with Sales, Omni, BU Strategy, and Insights teams to deliver tailored, data-driven solutions that create mutual value and elevate Kraft Heinz as a trusted advisor to Dollar General across key category initiatives. Dollar General has strong momentum — by capitalizing on that growth and using a curious, insight-driven approach to uncover and activate unmet needs, we can accelerate sustainable category growth. This role supports our commitment to developing a world-class Category Leadership function—built on curiosity, learning, and a mindset of continuous growth.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to turn data into actionable insights for consumer-centric, customer-relevant category strategies and storytelling.
  • Demonstrated success influencing retailer and internal decisions through insights-driven recommendations.
  • Strong experience and application of assortment optimization, shelving strategy, space management, and SKU rationalization within the CPG industry.
  • Proven proficiency in syndicated and shopper panel data tools (e.g., NIQ, Circana, Numerator, Kantar, etc.) and retailer-specific platforms (e.g. 1010)
  • Tested experience collaborating across functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Growth mindset with strong ownership and execution discipline

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted category manager to Dollar General’s Dry Grocery merchandising team, delivering insight-led strategies to enhance category growth and shopper engagement.
  • Develop and deliver consumer-driven, data-backed recommendations across assortment, shelf placement, aisle management, and innovation strategy within Dry Grocery categories.
  • Lead development of category reviews and customer strategy discussions, applying a consumer-led, customer-backed mindset to all
  • Translate complex data sources into clear, actionable insights and compelling customer storytelling.
  • Integrate omnichannel thinking — ensuring strategies span both in-store and digital shelf environments to maximize consumer reach and conversion.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams (Sales, Insights, etc.) to align on priorities and activate category strategies.
  • Lead with a consultative mindset, influencing without direct authority and taking ownership for driving category and customer outcomes.
  • Stay ahead of emerging marketplace, shopper, and consumer trends, proactively identifying new opportunities for Kraft Heinz and Dollar General growth.
