About The Position

The Category leadership Director will lead a team of 9, supporting Walmart, to deliver shopper-led category growth and impact. This role sets the strategic direction for category leadership, translating insights into clear, actionable solutions that deepen buyer partnerships, grow the category and strengthen cross-functional alignment. Balancing strategic vision with strong execution, the Director will elevate ways of working, sharpen decision-making, and enable the team to deliver focused, high-impact outcomes in a fast-moving retail environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 10 years of relevant experience required.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of category management experience, preferably with a CPG manufacturer
  • Deep experience working with Walmart
  • Proven people leader with experience building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams
  • Strong buyer-facing presence with the ability to influence through insight, storytelling, and leadership judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with disciplined execution, prioritization, and follow-through

  • A mindset of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities and elevating ways of working.
  • Effective cross functional leadership, building alignment and momentum across teams
  • Strong background in quantitative analysis; experience working with Scintilla, Nielsen and/or Circana & ShelfIQ
  • Advanced skills in syndicated data tools, Microsoft Office Suite and space management software tools (JDA); previous experience analyzing retailer-supplied point-of-sale data and retailer loyalty card data, assortment analysis tools, and shelving & store analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Category Strategy and Influence: Guide the team in shaping category strategy and driving retailer engagement through insight-driven, solution-oriented recommendations.
  • Drive Insights-Led Growth: Identify emerging trends, shopper behaviors, and best practices to inform customer strategies and elevate SCJ’s role as a category thought leader.
  • Customer Facing Leadership: Deliver actionable category solutions that align customer objectives, SCJ priorities, and broader category growth—positioning SCJ as a trusted advisor.
  • Elevate Team and Capabilities: Champion talent development, capability building and thought leadership across team of 9, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
