About The Position

Ingram Content Group (ICG) is hiring a Cataloging Systems Manager to join the team here in La Vergne, TN (just outside of Nashville). The Cataloging Systems Manager provides strategic business analysis to key stakeholders and customers. Works closely with business units to gain in-depth understanding of business strategy, processes, services, and the context in which the business operates. Bridges traditional library cataloging expertise with modern technology, ensuring that metadata quality, system design, automation, and user experience evolve in step with emerging library technologies and AI-driven capabilities. Gathers and translates business requirements into software solutions for the entire cycle of software development and implementation. Identifies, creates, and facilitates process design changes by conducting business and systems process analysis and design at a complex level. Researches, analyzes, documents and resolves related internal and external issues with customers. Facilitate project meetings and presentations to diverse audiences. Trains other IT associates for secondary application support, as well as business unit associates for primary customer support. Plays a critical role in shaping catalog management systems, advising on metadata architecture, validating system behavior, and guiding the development of intelligent cataloging tools and automated workflows. This position will require 4 days in the office, candidates must be in or willing to relocate to the Nashville, TN region. Want to help explore and build new ways to deliver content to the world? Requirements

  • Master’s degree in either Computer Science, Information Systems, or Library Science (MLS, MLIS, MSLS or other accepted accreditations from ALA) from school accredited by the American Library Association
  • 6 years original cataloging experience using M MARC21, RDA, LCSH, and related standards at the professional level in a library or library vendor setting
  • 3 year work experience using an integrated library system or cataloging management platform

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of RDA and AACR2 cataloging standards, LCSH, LC Call Number and Dewey classification schedules, and MARC21/OCLC formats
  • Ability to work in multiple cataloging databases and platforms and to piece them together in a complex process to achieve desired customer output
  • Knowledge of integrated library catalog systems; for example, SirsiDynix, Polaris, Sierra, ExLibris

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and evaluates existing or proposed business systems and processes to identify and implement improvements and opportunities for library cataloging and processing systems.
  • Define metadata quality standards and ensure consistency across cataloging workflows.
  • Act as the cataloging subject matter expert for IT teams during system design, development, and modernization initiatives.
  • Translate cataloging requirements into technical specifications for developers and architects.
  • Validate system behavior, including MARC parsing, field mapping, indexing, and transformation logic.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for cataloging modules, APIs, and automation pipelines.
  • Collaborate on integrations with external services (e.g., Z39.50, OCLC, vendor feeds, authority files).
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI/ML to cataloging workflows, including automated MARC field population and validation, metadata enrichment and subject classification, duplicate detection and record clustering, language detection and translation, and predictive cataloging for high-volume materials
  • Analyze current cataloging processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and scalability.
  • Train internal teams on cataloging concepts, metadata structures, and system functionality.
  • Represent cataloging needs in governance discussions and data quality initiatives.
  • Support change management during system upgrades or workflow transitions.
  • Serve as the liaison between cataloging, IT, product management, and operations.
  • Translates business requirements into technical requirements including scope definition, detail and process flows for use by the development team ensuring critical business rules are preserved.
  • Writes functional specifications using a variety of tools including word processing, spreadsheets, Jira, and drawings.
  • Assists with developing QA test plans for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintains current knowledge of customer needs and strategies and acts as liaison between users, stakeholders, and development staff.
  • Creates and maintains issue logs, meeting minutes, meeting schedules, project summaries and updates.
