This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. https://www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov/human-resources/collective-bargaining-agreements DEFINITION AND DUTIES: Under supervision, operate a motor vehicle and transport elderly and disabled individuals to various destinations throughout Johnson County. Assist with training and vehicle maintenance when necessary. Knowledge of: Traffic laws and regulations The Iowa City-Coralville urban and rural areas of Johnson County Basic mathematical computations English language to include basic grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation Ability to: Operate a motor vehicle safely and conscientiously Represent Johnson County and perform duties in a professional, responsible and trustworthy manner Provide customer service that is courteous and responsive Safely load and unload elderly and disabled individuals in and out of a vehicle Establish and maintain effective working relationships with riders, co-workers, supervisors, and members of the public Read and follow a map Operate automatic and manual lift equipment Handle moderate levels of stress, meet deadlines and solve problems appropriate to the position Understand and follow oral and written instructions including driver’s schedule (trip sheet & fare reconciliation) Occasionally work in unfavorable weather conditions Lift, move, carry, push and/or pull up to approximately 50 to 100 pounds Occasionally assist riders with maneuvering personal mobility devices up to 600 pounds Stand, sit, bend, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, and crawl Have clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communication Have sufficient vision, which includes color, side and night vision, judging distances and speeds Have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a vehicle and make handwritten notations Work usually 10 to 20 hours a week but could be up to 40 hours a week if willing at times (flexible schedule) MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or equivalent AND six (6) months delivery/driving experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Previous experience in working with people who are elderly and/or disabled is preferred. Special requirements: Must pass background check. Possession of a valid Class C commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement and insurable under county liability coverage. Safe driving record. Must pass a post-offer drug test and random and post accident drug and alcohol testing thereafter. SPECIFIC DUTIES: to be performed satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation The following duties are normal for this position. Drive a paratransit vehicle and transport people who are elderly and/or disabled from point to point throughout Johnson County while obeying traffic laws and regulations. Operate a wheelchair lift for assisting individuals in and out of the vehicle. Assist passengers with groceries, packages and/or meal delivery as appropriate. Follow schedule when picking up and dropping off passengers. Communicate cancelled rides, schedule changes/updates, and incidents with dispatcher. Assume responsibility for safe operation of vehicle and report any malfunctions, defects, or accidents. Perform pre and post-trip inspections checking general vehicle operations according to departmental standards. Complete route trip sheets, fare reconciliation and other forms. Perform routine vehicle maintenance and cleaning when required. Assist in on-route training of new drivers as assigned. Provide SEATS information to passengers. Participate in training/education opportunities and work-related meetings/conferences as requested. Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreement, and safety practices. Attend work regularly at the designated place and time.
