About The Position

As a cashier at West Marine, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring that every customer has a positive experience from the moment they enter the store until they leave. Your primary responsibility will be to greet customers with a friendly and professional demeanor, making them feel welcome and valued. You will be the first point of contact for customers, and your interactions will set the tone for their shopping experience. Your understanding of the products and services offered by West Marine will enable you to assist customers effectively, guiding them to the right items for their boating needs. In addition to greeting customers, you will handle various transactions, including cash, credit, and debit card payments. You will be responsible for maintaining cash control over the register drawer, ensuring that all amounts are accurate, and processing returns according to company policy. Your role will also involve answering phone calls, directing inquiries to the appropriate staff, and resolving any escalated issues with customers. You will need to be knowledgeable about the services available and assess customer needs to provide tailored assistance. As part of your duties, you will also train and supervise new cashiers, ensuring they understand the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the position. Keeping the point of sale area organized and stocked with supplies will be essential, as will assisting with the maintenance of the store front and retail displays. Flexibility in your schedule is important, as you may be required to work nights, weekends, and some holidays based on business needs. Overall, your role as a cashier is vital in creating a positive shopping environment and fostering customer loyalty at West Marine.
