About The Position

Out of the Closet Thrift Store (OTC) was founded in 1990 to help raise funds and awareness for AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). 96 cents of every dollar made goes to AHF’s HIV prevention and treatment services, and OTC offers high-quality HIV testing services at all locations. The Cashier contributes to AHF's mission by providing friendly, helpful service to shoppers, donors, and those seeking testing or pharmacy services. This role involves ringing up sales, answering customer questions, and providing excellent service to enhance AHF's reputation and encourage repeat business. Precision in handling cash and credit purchases is crucial for protecting AHF and maximizing revenue. The Cashier also supports other OTC employees by being friendly, helpful, and offering assistance, and by providing feedback to management for service improvement. The position requires adaptability and flexibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Able to maintain a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
  • Able to multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Able to work effectively with others in a team oriented environment and provide excellent customer service
