About The Position

The Convenience Store Cashier is responsible for providing friendly, efficient customer service while accurately handling cash and electronic transactions. This role includes operating the point-of-sale system, assisting customers with purchases, maintaining a clean and organized store environment, and supporting daily store operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, customer-focused, and able to work in a fast-paced retail setting while representing the company in a professional and courteous manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Previous cashier, retail, or customer service experience preferred (but not required)
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening test
• Must meet minimum age requirements for tobacco, alcohol, and lottery sales
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Basic math skills and attention to detail
• Ability to accurately handle cash and electronic payments
• Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to learn store procedures and POS systems
• Ability to follow safety, security, and loss prevention policies
• Capable of standing for extended periods and performing light to moderate physical tasks
• Team-oriented with a positive attitude

Responsibilities

• Greet customers promptly and provide friendly, courteous service
• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately for cash, credit, and debit transactions
• Handle cash, make correct change, and balance cash drawer as required
• Assist customers with product inquiries and purchases
• Stock shelves, coolers, and displays; rotate merchandise as needed
• Maintain cleanliness of the sales floor, counter areas, restrooms, and store exterior
• Monitor inventory levels and report low or out-of-stock items
• Follow company policies related to safety, security, and loss prevention
• Verify age requirements and comply with all laws regarding tobacco, alcohol, and lottery sales
• Perform basic food service or beverage preparation duties
• Handle customer concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary
• Support opening and closing procedures, including cleaning and restocking
• Work assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
