Summary The Food Service Worker – Cashier plays a key role in delivering excellent customer service by performing cashier duties and supporting food preparation and service operations. This position is responsible for accurately handling transactions, preparing and serving food, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and ensuring compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations. The role requires a strong focus on customer interaction, food quality, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Communication and customer service skills, good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to make change for cash payments, make transactions with acceptable forms of payment, and issuing receipts to customers.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to use standard measures required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 - 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Food Handler’s Permit by applicable state and county.
  • ServSafe training and certificate as required by applicable state and county.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, courteous, and efficient service to customers following established service procedures.
  • Handles customer inquiries and complaints professionally, escalating issues to supervisors as needed.
  • Processes accurate sales transactions using a cash register, ensuring all purchases are properly recorded.
  • Manages cash, change funds, and receipts in accordance with company policies and overage/shortage standards.
  • Accepts various forms of payment, issue receipts, and follow procedures for refunds and adjustments.
  • Monitors customer purchases to ensure proper portion control and adherence to pricing standards.
  • Assists with food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and measuring ingredients.
  • Transports food items and supplies safely between workstations, maintaining proper handling procedures.
  • Stores food items correctly by following labeling, dating, and rotation guidelines to ensure freshness and safety.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils according to health and safety standards.
  • Distributes supplies, utensils, and portable equipment as needed to support food service operations.
  • Follows approved recipes and production standards to maintain food quality, temperature, and portion consistency.
  • Collaborates with team members to uphold service standards and ensure accurate inventory and cash control.
  • Complies with all sanitation, safety, and food handling regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall food service operations.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages, coaches, and monitors the same in team members.
  • This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.
  • Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions.
  • Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
