About The Position

The Cashier I plays a vital role in the university’s financial operations by accurately receiving and recording campus-wide cash collections. This position ensures compliance with established fiscal controls and procedures, safeguarding institutional assets. The Cashier I delivers exceptional customer service daily to students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Responsibilities include processing payments, reconciling transactions, maintaining secure cash handling practices, and assisting with inquiries related to student accounts.

Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Experience using a ten-key pad.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or closely related area.
Experience working with students, collections, registration process, or financial aid disbursements in a higher education setting.
Experience with Banner and TouchNet Business Office Cashiering Edition.
Knowledge of cash management principles and procedures.
Knowledge of FERPA and other applicable laws, regulations and guidelines related to the position.
Knowledge of or ability to learn Workday or similar enterprise financial management software application.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide quickly and accurately.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

Accepts and processes payments via cash, check, wire, and credit card, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
Processes waivers, third-party contract payments, and miscellaneous financial transactions efficiently and accurately.
Prepares receipts, deposit slips, and related documentation for end-of-day bank deposits.
Researches and resolves student account inquiries, escalating complex issues to appropriate personnel.
Maintains and balances cash drawer daily, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
Distributes student refund checks in a timely and secure manner.
Assists with the organization and filing of accounts receivable records to ensure audit readiness and data integrity.
Adheres to established standards on the use and protection of restricted data as outlined in FGCU Policy 3.042.
Responsible for completing mandatory university training course(s) annually.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
