About The Position

The Cashier position is a seasonal position. The position is responsible for assisting customers with registration and payment for facility usage as well as enforcing associated rules. ABOUT US: The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities. Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to obtain
  • Ability to relate to staff and patrons in a positive manner that represents our agency.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to count money and have cash handling skills
  • Must have decision-making skills
  • Must be able to take initiative with job tasks and multitask
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 5-20 hours per week
  • Must be able to work in environments with various temperatures, including high heat and high humidity
  • To be able to sub or work longer shifts when necessary
  • Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to work a varied schedule as required
  • Ability to work with staff and patrons in a relaxed and friendly manner.
  • Ability to stay attentive for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Present oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Complete records and reports.
  • Assist in cleaning the facility.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Be reliable and punctual for all shifts.
  • Checking ID’s for memberships
  • Ability to use RecTrac system to enter registrations and payments.
  • Processing new and renewed memberships
  • Answering phones, questions, and patron inquiries
  • Depositing money and registrations with completed batches
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons
  • Must be courteous and reasonably accommodating to all patrons needing assistance/customer service.
  • Ensure the safety of the patrons by enforcing the rules of the facility.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the facility is clean and safe for the patrons and staff.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the District’s safety programs.
  • Participate in community activities.
  • Report inappropriate behavior and activities
  • Make calls as directed to patrons
  • Resolve issues and problems with good judgment and in the best interests of the Patrons and the Park District.
  • To understand facility and park district rules, regulations, and policies
  • To react efficiently and effectively, and in good judgment, during emergency situations
  • Report damaged or hazardous materials or situations
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor, as deemed necessary and appropriate under your position.
