Under the supervision of the Gift Shop Manager, the Cashier & Gift Shop Admissions Staff is responsible for the following: Sell admissions accurately and efficiently. Actively solicit membership sales and all other appropriate tickets/offers. Sell all souvenir or concession items accurately and efficiently. Receive and tag merchandise. Stock gift shop shelves. Keep all gift shop areas and work spaces clean and "visitor friendly". Attend to all customer needs/problems in a prompt & courteous manner. Answer phone calls; and relay any necessary messages to staff. Record group reservations and coordinate tours, parties, and rentals with the Educational Department. Check messages and work schedules at the start of the shift. Open registers and preparation of assigned areas before the public arrives. Closeout registers and other devices at the end of the business day and transfer money and appropriate paperwork to the supervisor. Clean assigned areas at the end of the business day to established standards. Assist in the preparation of deposits and associated record keeping. Inventory gift shop stock on a regular basis and make reports. Check supplies of all Zoo forms and publications (donation, membership, Adopt-an-Animal, Zoo brochures) and replenish displays as necessary. Wear the proper designated uniform. Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: The work requires some physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping, and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds are required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve everyday risks, which require normal safety precautions typical of the recreation industry.
