Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, this role operates a computerized cash register to record Department items sold and reconciles cash and register documentation at the end of the day. The position involves demonstrating excellent customer service skills, greeting customers, and organizing the cashier area by procuring currency bags and filling cash register and credit card machines. Responsibilities include accurately operating a cash register to compute charges, assigning appropriate cost exceptions, identifying items, and processing various forms of payment such as cash, checks, and credit cards. The individual will be accountable for cash at the end of each shift, verifying register tapes, posting adjustments, and assisting with balancing cash drawers. Compliance with Health System and Department policies for handling currency is required. Additionally, the role involves maintaining food product inventory, including ordering from approved vendors, monitoring inventory levels to maximize turnover and minimize spoilage and waste, and participating in annual inventory processes. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, basic math, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and interruptions.
