If you are looking to serve others, this is the place for you The primary purpose of this position is to: -Provide case management and coordination of services concerning medical, mental health, and substance abuse issues thus providing a continuum of care to the juveniles being detained. -Serve as contact person and liaison between the juvenile, center, medical services provider, mental health services provider, substance abuse services provider, Juvenile Court Counselors, Department of Social Services representatives, Health Department, hospital/ER and any other professional agencies, community agencies, or stakeholders within the scope of the Department's confidentiality policy and HIPPA. -Schedule health, mental health, and substance abuse related appointments as indicated as well as provide or arrange transportation to the appointments and accompany juvenile to appointment if the need is indicated. -Required to document results of medical, mental health, and substance abuse assessments and testing; treatment provided; and any indicated follow-up in the juvenile's record, medical record, discharge summaries, and electronic data base. -Compile and maintain data which will be utilized to compile required monthly reports. -Ensure Medical Policy compliance by checking medical records and medication administration for accuracy. -Ensure medication supply is maintained by verifying medication, contacting the juvenile's parent/guardian, medication provider, hospital, and pharmacy to ensure continuation of medication and medication compliance. -Required to directly supervise juveniles in the center. -Ensure that the procedures and guidelines of the center are followed. -Provide crisis intervention and group counseling. The position confers with Court Counselors, Social Workers, Juvenile Officers, Psychologists, Lawyers and Parents regarding youth behavior.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a field relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience with the client population; or Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a related programmatic area providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants for positions designated as Juvenile Justice Officers are subject to and must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, as defined in Title 12, Chapter 9 of the NC Administrative Code, by the statutory authority of GS 17C.
  • Selected applicant must attend and successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program.
  • Have or be able to obtain required documentation for certification as a Juvenile Justice Officer (i.e. a diploma).
  • Pass a Criminal Background check
  • Pass a Drug Screening test
  • Pass a Psychological test
  • Pass a Sexual Risk Screening test
  • Pass a Physical (to include Vision and Hearing)
  • Be a US citizen
  • Be at least 20 years of age
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • You must be physically capable of applying the proper methods and procedures to physically restrain juveniles and defend self after being properly training by the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of social work practices with their application to casework, group work and/or community problems
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals who have behavioral problems and/or socioeconomic problems and creating treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of governmental and/or private organizations using resources in the community.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
