About The Position

The CASE VI/DHH (Visual Impairment & Deaf/Hard of Hearing) Supervisor assists in the development and implementation of services for students with low vision or blindness and deaf or hard of hearing in the CASE region in compliance with all federal and state regulations. The Supervisor coordinates services provided by the teachers of the visually impaired (TVI) and the teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing (TODHH) programs. The CASE VI/DHH Supervisor also supports the related service providers of educational audiology, educational interpreters, and orientation and mobility (O & M) specialists.

Responsibilities

Establish policies and procedures for operation of services for the CASE Program for the Visually Impaired and CASE Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in cooperation with CASE Special Education Directors.
Define criteria for eligibility for visual impairment, deaf, hearing impaired, and DeafBlind for the CASE region.
Coordinate the implementation of hearing-impaired services for students throughout the CASE region, including participating/facilitating the educational and audiological review (EAR) team functions.
Collaborate with educational audiologists regarding diagnostics, classroom amplification, hearing assistive technology (HAT), and aural rehabilitation.
Coordinate the implementation of services for students with visual impairments throughout the CASE region.
Maintain regular contact with TVIs and O & M specialist.
Collaborate with school principals when requested to assist in evaluating the VI/DHH program’s staff and making recommendations for improvement.
Act as liaison and representative for the CASE region with the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and the Illinois School for the Deaf.
Develop and train VI/DHH staff to provide support to school personnel in the areas of content/disability knowledge, AT/HAT support, material adaptations, accommodations, etc. specific to sensory impairments.
Attend and participate in committee work for the IVLC (Illinois Vision Leadership Council) and ISHI (Illinois Supervisors for the Hearing Impaired) leadership meetings/conferences throughout the school year.
Assist in conducting performance evaluations for TVIs, TODHH, Educational Audiologist(s) and O & M Specialist(s) upon request of districts and cooperative directors within the CASE region.
Provide recommendations for program needs including; staff projections (TODHH, TVI, Educational Audiology, O&M, Educational Interpreters, Program Aides, and Paraprofessionals), caseload distribution, assistive technology, professional development, and other VI/DHH specific items as needed.
Assist CASE Special Education Directors with recruiting and interviewing efforts.
Attend EDC/IEPs when possible or requested.
Develop and execute professional development meetings to provide specialized technical support for sensory impairment with VI/DHH staff to review federal and state policies and regulations and to address current special education trends and issues.
Develop and sponsor CASE-wide VI/DHH activity days to address areas in the expanded core curriculum and to help students and families develop a network in the field of low vision and blindness and deaf/hard of hearing.
Carry out duties on behalf of the CASE Vision Program in relation to the Illinois Instructional Material Center (IIMC) including; approving and ordering materials (large print, Braille, or tangible aids), completing the annual low vision census and blind census maintaining inventory partnering to develop and provide workshops
Assist PRC (Philip Rock Center) to complete the annual DeafBlind census.
Assist in conducting initial and triennial assessments to determine eligibility and appropriate program planning.
Write Functional Vision Assessment or Learning Media Assessment reports to include in student records and to disseminate to appropriate team members.
Coordinate semi-annual low vision clinics in conjunction with the Lion’s Foundation and the “Seeing is Believing” program.
Act as liaison between school districts, public and private agencies, medical facilities, and community organizations related to the field of low vision and blindness and deaf/hard of hearing.
Oversee the assessment and eligibility determination for students exiting Carle Auditory Oral School (CAOS) into public school.
Work collaboratively with the EI (Early Intervention) Developmental Therapist for VI and DHH professionals to provide smooth transition into ECE (Early Childhood Education).
Work collaboratively with ADA Rehabilitation Providers (i.e. Bureau of Customer and Community Blind Services and DRS Deaf Rehab Counselors) to provide smooth transition into adult services.
Serve as liaison between ISU (Illinois State University) and CASE districts or cooperatives when placing field-base and student teachers.
Keep directors informed of major issues and supply other information concerning the programs for the VI/DHH.
Perform other duties as assigned by the special education director(s).
