About The Position

We are ChiArts. Chicago's first public arts high school. The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts®) develops the next generation of diverse, artistically promising scholar-artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Over 2,500 hours of tuition-free, pre-professional arts training are provided to every scholar-artist from freshman year to graduation. Our alumni are pioneers – as scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, and from millions of plays on Spotify, to touring with a dance company, to published writing, to making art that challenges and entertains us on stage and screen, they are blazing new pathways. A Case Manager's primary professional responsibility is to ensure that students have appropriately written individual education plans and that the plans are being implemented in all school settings. Plans must be developed following a process that reviews and considers all relevant factors, including assessment data, curriculum-based measurements, and input from team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a Professional Educator License (PEL) and LBS1 certification required
  • 3 years of Special Education teaching experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse population
  • Current knowledge of educational technology and applications
  • Expert knowledge of the subject area
  • Knowledge of legal requirements as they relate to students receiving services through IEPs or 504 plans
  • Ability to collaboratively support accommodations/modifications based on individual student needs
  • A high regard for student potential and an ability to provide opportunities for students to develop and succeed
  • Willingness to be bold and creative in pursuit of what is best for students
  • Reflective teaching practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams and nurture collegial relationships
  • Able to adapt and improve in changing situations

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of a Master's degree is preferred
  • Current knowledge of educational technology and application; working knowledge of IMPACT preferred
  • Curriculum development experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the backward design planning process is preferred.
  • An understanding of the value of arts education

Responsibilities

  • Fulfilling all the roles and responsibilities delineated in the ODLSS Procedural Manual as a CPS Contract School
  • Ensuring that all parental notices and consents (Full and Individual Evaluations and placements) are processed and provided in the native language, are feasible, and are placed in the student's temporary files
  • Sending parents/guardians copies of draft IEP materials and applicable paraprofessional, ESY, and learning Environment Interventions forms, along with copies of all conducted evaluations and any other collected data at least five school days prior to the meeting
  • Ensuring that IEP teams are utilizing qualitative and quantitative data when making service decisions in the development of an IEP
  • Ensuring that all relevant student data is entered into SSM in a timely manner
  • Serve as a case manager for each student with an IEP and or 504 plan
  • Monitor all aspects of IEPs to ensure compliance and implementation of timelines, modifications, and accommodations, and direct services
  • Facilitate specialized services team meetings
  • Coordinate and facilitate all specialized services meetings, including IEP and 504 meetings
  • Keep systematic data on progress monitoring
  • Communicate regularly with the administration and general education teachers
  • Maintain regular contact with parents and families
  • Maintain all related documentation
  • Secure all confidential documents
  • Communicate regularly with the administration and general education teachers
  • Manage specialized services, paraprofessionals, and teaching assistants
  • Provide professional development for general education teachers
  • Attend all case manager meetings and trainings provided by the Chicago Public Schools
  • Serve as the testing accommodations coordinator for standardized testing
