About The Position

Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Case Manager for LSU Cares. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Care, the Case Manager coordinates and implements interventions with students experiencing challenges that are disruptive to their overall well-being, in crisis, and/or distress. The Case Manager assists the Assistant Dean overseeing students of concern, the Foster Care Youth program, and Transfer student programming. The Case Manager may supervise and/or provide support for WAE (part-time) employees, graduate assistants, practicum students, and interns. The successful candidate will be a collegial team player who actively builds authentic and mutually beneficial relationships with students, staff and faculty, has a sincere positive regard for all persons, strong problem-solving skills, is solutions oriented, an effective communicator, dedicated to high quality work, professionalism, and consistency, and desires continuous improvement. They must be able to manage a high case load in a fast-paced environment and plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. The role also involves providing leadership and building support for Foster Care Youth and Transfer students, supervising a grant-funded part-time Case Manager for Foster Care Youth, evaluating current practices to expand outreach and programming for Transfer students, building partnerships with university and community stakeholders to ensure services are welcoming and accessible, and increasing LSU’s ability to respond to and prevent crisis on campus through education and planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field and at least one year of professional related experience working with vulnerable populations, crisis response, or related field.
  • OR Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Higher Ed, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • At least two or more years of experience in higher education administration, social work, counseling, or closely related field.
  • Experience working with crisis response.
  • Understanding of mental health conditions, treatment plans, and terminology (including diagnostic categories) & medical privacy guidelines (HIPAA).
  • Experience with Maxient or other case management tracking tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements interventions with students in crisis, distress, and of concern, including initial meetings, campus and community referrals, follow-up, and other efforts to provide thorough and effective education for students in need.
  • Assist students of concern in partnership with campus constituents.
  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders regarding interdisciplinary intervention efforts, including but not limited to, Care team members, student health practitioners, academic counselors, faculty, staff, parent/families, and others.
  • Oversee programming, develop community partners, and support campus education for the Foster Youth Support Program.
  • Attends and communicates with Care team members as needed for follow up on existing cases and initiation of new cases.
  • Provide leadership and build support for Foster Care Youth and Transfer students.
  • Supervise a grant funded part time Case Manager who has specific duties related to Foster Care Youth.
  • Evaluate current practices to expand outreach and programming with the Transfer Student population.
  • Build partnerships with university and community stakeholders to ensure Care services are welcoming and accessible to all students.
  • Strengthen existing partnerships and identify and establish new partnerships to best support students.
  • Assist in multiple aspects of communication and planning for student crisis response throughout campus.
  • Increase campus education about crisis prevention and intervention through the LSU Cares program.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and assistance with students of concern cases and management of case load within Maxient.
  • Responsible for attending and assisting in the coordination of care team communication and follow-up.
  • Lead the Foster Youth Support Program by building/maintaining community and campus stakeholder partnerships.
  • Providing education of the Foster Youth Support Program to community and campus stakeholders.
  • Bring exposure to the Foster Youth Support Program.
  • Establish processes to gather data related to former foster care youth on campus and use that data to inform program development and implementation.
  • Develop more robust outreach and programming for Transfer Students.
  • Ensures the highest level of support in every aspect of interventions provided to students.
  • Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to improve the level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in the department for continuous improvement every academic year.
  • Other duties as assigned by Assistant Dean of Care, including efforts that support broad division/institution initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services, Finals Testing, and other special projects.
