About The Position

The Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist I (ABOS I) is responsible for supervising a team of Benefits Opportunity Specialist (BOS) staff, who provide various functions of eligibility determination, financial planning, and employment planning and monitoring to assist individuals and families in need. This position is under the direction of the Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist II and involves using supervisory, program development, quantitative analysis, and research skills to achieve the goals of the Family Independence Administration (FIA) Benefits Access Centers. The ABOS I will oversee the application process for new applicants, manage case reviews, and ensure comprehensive service delivery to participants.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in social/human services or a related setting.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus eighteen months of full-time satisfactory experience as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus eighteen months of full-time satisfactory experience in client services or employment planning/counseling.
  • College credit from an accredited college may substitute for experience on a basis of 60 semester credits for 9 months of work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of BOS workers handling the application process for new applicants and reopened cases.
  • Assign applications to staff, review recommendations, and sign off on benefits and case entries.
  • Supervise staff who interview applicants and assess eligibility for immediate needs grants and public assistance.
  • Prepare daily and weekly statistical reports on work performed and conduct monthly audits.
  • Assist with case consultation and provide guidance on difficult cases.
  • Manage ongoing eligibility and develop Employment Assessment and Employment Plans for participants.
  • Review employment eligibility decisions for correctness according to agency rules.
  • Perform Mandatory Dispute Resolution functions.
  • Supervise staff who correspond with homebound clients and provide quick service for walk-in or telephone clients.
  • Supervise staff who assess housing needs of tenants at risk of homelessness and develop intervention plans.
  • Conduct field visits as necessary.
