About The Position

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The Medical Division is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all members of the service. Case Management Nurses consult with private physicians of members of the service and conduct in-depth interviews with members in order to evaluate treatment plans. They conduct follow-ups with hospitals where members have been admitted for emergency care, surgery, etc. in order to monitor the quality of care and ensure the member is returned to duty as soon as medically indicated. They act as health care educational resource people for Department members and their families and provide counseling to encourage health care practices that promote physical and emotional well-being to reduce absenteeism.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse
  • A baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and three years of clinical nursing experience; or
  • An associate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and five years of clinical nursing experience; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2' above
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements listed above, at least one additional year of clinical nursing experience
