About The Position

Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC) overseen by the Office of Refugee and Resettlement (ORR), ensures the well-being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0-17) who cross the US Southern border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregate care settings, our approach involves placing unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potential sponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, and essential mental health services.. The role our Case Aides play in all this is to meet the critical needs of our children by providing safe and reliable transportation to appointments in the community. Success in this role includes flexibility and the understanding that day-to-day activities may changes and this individual must be open and available to assist in any way needed to support the children in the program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's degree preferred
  • 1-year experience working with families and children required
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office required
  • Bilingual in English-Haitian Creole or English/Spanish required
  • Valid NYS driver's license - required
  • Willingness and ability to drive a car or van within the 5 boroughs of New York City, and across the nation
  • Word processing: Including responding to emails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation
  • Sit in and/or drive a vehicle up to several hours
  • Completing paperwork such as copying, scanning, and faxing documentation
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Regular hours entail Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pm
  • Must be flexible to meet program needs
  • Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a busy human services office - strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation of the children in our program to medical and legal appointments, hearings, and other social services
  • Respectfully communicate with children, foster parents, and colleagues; effectively report the behavior of children during transportation to foster parents and other team members
  • Provide assistance with intake and discharge-related transportation, to include travel from state to state for reunification with a sponsor
  • Provide language interpretation to clients for appointments out in the community, as needed
  • Provide supervision of youth in the classroom, as needed
  • Assist with the intake process and with case documentation
  • Ensure professional boundaries are established and maintained at all times on the job, especially when supervising youth
  • Assist the team during case emergencies
  • Pick up or deliver possessions
